In this edition of our WBT Spotlight, we had the pleasure of sitting down with Connor Bloskas, Founder of West Way Mortgage Company. Driven by a passion for financial expertise and a commitment to excellence, Connor holds a degree in Finance and a minor in Economics from Texas A&M University. This strong academic foundation equips him with a deep understanding of the financial intricacies of real estate. Since launching his realtor-founded mortgage brokerage, Connor has been elevating service options for homebuyers and using his expertise to educate Texas real estate professionals.
Q: Tell us a little bit of the backstory of how and why you started West Way Mortgage Co.?
"I started West Way Mortgage Company because I saw an opportunity to do things better. I wanted to offer borrowers competitive interest rates without sacrificing the personal touch and support they deserve. At the same time, I wanted to make the process easier and more efficient for realtors. My goal was to create a company where both borrowers and realtors feel valued and supported throughout the entire mortgage process. It’s about delivering great rates and an even better experience!"
Q: Tell us more about the valuable services you provide that positively impact realtors and homebuyers?
"At West Way Mortgage, we provide a unique combination of services that really do benefit both realtors and homebuyers. Because we're on the wholesale side of the mortgage business, we're able to offer extremely competitive interest rates that can make a big difference for buyers. These wholesale rates help our clients secure better deals. On top of that, we’ve integrated some of the best technology in the industry, which allows us to deliver faster, more efficient service. This speeds up the mortgage process for everyone involved, ensuring that both homebuyers and realtors can move forward with confidence and ease."
Q: What do you think really sets you apart from other companies in your field?
"What really sets West Way Mortgage apart is our access to over 200 different underwriters, all offering wholesale interest rates. This gives us a huge advantage in being able to shop around and find the absolute best deal for each client. Instead of being locked into one set of rates or terms, we can explore a wide range of options tailored to the unique needs of every homebuyer. It’s this flexibility and commitment to finding the best possible rates that truly differentiates us from other mortgage companies."
Q: Can you share examples of notable projects or challenges your business has successfully tackled?
"One notable challenge we successfully tackled at West Way Mortgage involved a client who owned 14 rental properties and wanted to purchase a multi-million dollar home. His regular income wasn’t enough to qualify for the loan he needed, but we found a solution by using the rental income from his properties instead. By leveraging that stream of income and carefully structuring the loan, we were able to get him approved for the mortgage without relying on his job income. It was a complex situation, but our access to a wide range of underwriters allowed us to find the right lender who could accommodate his unique financial setup. This is just one example of how we go the extra mile to meet our clients’ needs, even in challenging circumstances."
Q: Do you have a memorable or interesting story involving a mortgage loan process that would be fun and entertaining to share with our readers?
"One of the more memorable stories from our mortgage process involves a client who was determined to buy his dream home, but he hit a roadblock with his debt-to-income ratio. He owned a Ferrari that was tipping the scales against him in qualifying for the mortgage. In a bold move, he decided to sell the Ferrari to reduce his debt, which allowed us to push the mortgage through and get him approved for the loan. The twist? The very next day after closing on the house, he turned around and bought the exact same Ferrari back! It was a fun and creative way to navigate the mortgage process, and while most people wouldn't part with their car for a day, it just shows how far some clients will go to get into their perfect home!"
Q: What inspires you as a business owner? Any advice for others starting out? Any challenges you have faced and overcome?
"As a business owner, I’m inspired by the opportunity to make a real difference in people’s lives. Helping clients navigate one of the biggest financial decisions of their lives—buying a home—drives me every day. My advice to others starting out is to stay focused on providing genuine value and service, even when it feels tough. The challenges will come, whether it's competing in a crowded market or facing setbacks, but those moments push you to adapt and grow. One challenge I’ve overcome is finding a balance between offering competitive rates and maintaining top-notch service. By leveraging wholesale interest rates and advanced technology, I’ve been able to keep that balance and create a business that thrives on both affordability and exceptional client care. Keep learning, stay flexible, and always put the client first."
Q: When you are not providing home loans for your clients, what other types of things do you and/or your company like to participate in that helps support our Texas communities?
"When we're not busy providing home loans for our clients, we love getting involved in the local Texas communities in meaningful ways. At West Way Mortgage, we actively support local charities and participate in community events that focus on housing initiatives and financial education.
We believe in giving back, whether it's through sponsoring community fundraisers, volunteering with organizations that help families find stable housing, or participating in educational workshops to help people better understand their financial options. We’re committed to helping Texas communities thrive, both in and out of the office. It’s important to us that our work goes beyond just business, reaching deeper into the neighborhoods we serve."
Q: Do you have any exciting projects or company news you would like to share?
"We’re excited to share some big news at West Way Mortgage— we’ve just received approval to offer reverse mortgages! This is a huge step for us, as it allows us to address a critical financial need for our senior citizens, which many banks aren’t able to do. Reverse mortgages can be a great way for seniors to access the equity in their homes, providing them with more financial flexibility during retirement. By adding this option, we’re expanding the ways we can help our clients, especially those looking for alternatives to traditional mortgages. It’s an exciting time for us, and we’re thrilled to be able to offer this valuable service to the community."
